A day with Upstress-distress

Other day while enjoying evening tea with friends, one of my friends mentioned a word ‘upstress’. Upstress as defined by her is the just opposite of distress.. a situation of stress before the onset of a good event which holds great importance in our lives.

We all have experienced this upstress, either before wedding day or settling down for job, joining day of college or job etc. Upstress is the result of perhaps rushing adrenaline in the body by the simple thought of the event.

But last time when I visited Delhi, I was just unable to make difference between upstress and distress. It was a beautiful argument between the two halves of the same mind. On one side were whooping heartbeats and on the other was endless sweat.

One a table in the corner of MCD inside the plush DLF Cyber City, Gurgaon, I had been waiting for the fight between upstress and distress to end. In front of me, was sitting a present form of life, taking the exam of endless endurance.

Whereas, I was busy in calming down this ongoing fight within. On the outside, I had to go through an additional guilt of making the present form take the exam forcibly. But the past form’s charm wouldn’t let me have enough of it.

The graph of upstress-distress shot up instantly at 7:15 pm, on the arrival of past form. And there it was, the mist dramatic moment of my life, where my past faced the present. It was a nice time though.

While returning in the metro from Sikander pur to Jungpura, distress levels incredibly increased. And further on the train to Pune, distress levels soared all time high, plunging me into a nonchalant state afterwards.

I still ponder upon, how well the brain has been created that smartly tricks me into the upstress-distress thing, carefully snuggling out and blaming the heart thereafter.
