An untitled story

Updated: Aug 16, 2021

Shweta kept aside her phone and sat down. She was still mesmerized by the events of the day and was teary eyed thinking about the charming days she spent in the college. Eventually, she got lost in memories, random ones, sometimes laughing and sometimes wiping her tears.

I had to call her a third time, shaking her violently, “Shweta, are you in this world?” She got startled.

“Oh! Radhika. It’s you. I got frightened out of my wits”. Don’t shake me like that again. You know very well that I get frightened so easily.” Said Shweta, coming into her normal state, out of her memories.

“You won’t hear me if I won’t shake you like that & would keep screaming like hell.” I teased Shweta. “You have become deaf Shweta, get your ears checked up soon.”

Shweta smiled at me. “Now, tell me what is it that you called me?” said Shweta with gleaming eyes.

“C’mon now it’s time for lunch. Aunt has been calling you since 5 minutes.” I told her.

Shweta finally got up from her bed. She was still looking as if she had just got up from a dream. She slowly moved towards the cupboard to get her clothes. She seemed to be lost once again in her dreams.

I called her out once to clear my doubt, “Shweta, are you coming over for lunch today? I guess you have to have it today itself.”

“Yes, Radhika. I’m coming in 2 minutes.” Said Shweta, a bit annoyed due to my repeated calls for lunch.

She appeared in the living room after 5 minutes. She was in her usual T-Shirt and shorts along with her hair tied up in a clumsy bun. A strand of her hair fell loose on her face which she tucked carefully behind her ear. She smiled at all present there for lunch.

PS: Photo not a creative visualization of the post. It is in the memory of the home.
